End Users Write The Brief For Integrated AV Projects

Most integrated AV projects begin with a product list and work backwards to a requirement. InfoComm EDGE Collective, announced by AVIXA on 22 October for 3 November at Address Sky View in Dubai, ran the sequence in the opposite direction. An End User Council of senior regional operators shaped the design brief and the operational challenges first; integration specialists then responded through a competitive review that Leisung won; technology partners including Q-SYS were brought in afterwards to optimise how the environment performs. The result is a single activation built around three connected environments - command and control, operational collaboration, and engagement and learning - demonstrated through a live municipality scenario in which information, decisions and actions move between the spaces.

The most quotable sentence in the announcement came from the council itself. Mohammad Majid observed that everyone designs for the executive walking in at ten in the morning, and almost nobody designs for the technician who must get behind the system at seven - access, labelling, serviceability, and whether a component can be swapped without flying in a specialist are decisions made in the last five per cent of a design and then govern the next ten years of the asset's life. Another council member framed the requirement list in human terms rather than technical ones: everyone in a meeting should feel equal whether present or remote, work should not stop when something fails, and the space should respond to what is happening rather than wait for an operator. Those translate into design rules - sightline parity, redundancy on the paths that matter, and automation deep enough that a room recovers without a phone call.

What makes the model worth watching is where it puts risk. In a conventional specification, the integrator carries the gap between a procurement document and operational reality, and the gap is discovered during commissioning. In an end-user-led brief, the operating organisation states what failure, access and continuity mean in its own vocabulary before a vendor is chosen, and the winning integrator is contracted against that vocabulary. It is a modest structural change with a large practical consequence: the questions that used to surface in year two appear in the tender instead.

Amtune works with integrators who write briefs this way, and the hardware choices follow the same logic. Seamless hybrid matrices with per-output scaling and presets make room recovery a one-step action rather than an engineer visit; HDBaseT extenders keep long runs serviceable point to point; AV over IP decoders let a fleet of displays be repointed without touching cable; and Dante and AES67 audio zones keep speech, paging and content on one supervised network. Every product ships with documentation, labelling guidance and firmware continuity under ISO 9001 with CE, FCC and RoHS compliance. Briefing-stage consultations at sales@amtune.com.
