SDVoE Alliance Grows As Atlona Ships 10GbE Matrix

The SDVoE Alliance, the consortium standardising Ethernet transport of AV signals, has welcomed Atlona as an adopting member, and the membership arrived with a product attached. Atlona has unveiled the PRO5 Series, an innovative matrix switching solution that uses SDVoE technology for long-distance, dependable point-to-point extension. The anchor product is the AT-PRO5-MX810, an 8 by 10 matrix switcher with HDMI inputs and SDVoE extension outputs that carry 4K HDR video and audio to companion receivers. Each SDVoE output can be copper or fibre, extending 4K/UHD at 60 Hz with 4:4:4 chroma sampling and HDR formats over standard 10 gigabit Ethernet on CAT6a UTP or optical cable.

What makes the launch worth reading is not the port count but the fact that video processing now lives inside the matrix. The PRO5 Series includes video wall processing, 4K upscaling and downscaling, and frame rate conversion, so a single chassis can build a display wall, normalise mismatched sources and hand off to distant receivers. In other words the matrix switcher, the oldest device category in professional AV, is becoming a 10GbE processing and extension hub rather than a box of relays. For rooms and buildings where a fixed, deterministic signal path still matters, that is a meaningful change in what one head-end product can do.

The context is the transport hierarchy that now defines system design.
