Amtune Signal Chains For Railway And Metro Stations

A railway or metro station runs the most unforgiving AV brief outside a broadcast studio. Concourse and platform displays work around the clock under daylight, vibration and dust; the departure board is contractual, because a wrong or blank departure is a complaint and sometimes a regulatory matter; the public address layer usually carries life-safety duties; and every hour of engineering time has to be booked inside a night maintenance window that the timetable, not the integrator, owns. Design decisions that are conveniences in an office tower are structural in a station.

The display estate divides naturally into three roles. Departure and arrival boards are a single canvas fed by the station's passenger information system, so the head end is a seamless hybrid matrix with multiview processing: per-output scaling for the mix of tile sizes and orientations that platforms accumulate, locked EDID per output so a sleeping tile never blanks its neighbours, and frame-synchronised outputs where the board spans multiple tiles. Platform and concourse wayfinding screens rarely switch live, so point-to-point HDBaseT runs with the display's own power are the cheapest dependable option for the long axis of a platform, and AV over IP decoders earn their place only where operations genuinely need to repoint content - a service disruption, a diverted platform - from the control room without touching cable.

Audio is where stations differ most from every other AV building. Background music has no place on a platform; what exists is announcements, and they sit on a supervised path. Amtune's Dante and AES67 audio modules let the announcement, paging and information layers share one IP network with clear priority rules enforced in the DSP - emergency and operational announcements override everything, platform-level paging cannot leak to the next platform, and the zones map to the physical station, not to a rack layout. Where the voice alarm is a certified life-safety system, the AV network stays strictly read-only beside it: monitoring, never control, and the certification boundary written down in the design.

Maintenance discipline closes the brief. Night windows mean nothing reboots on a timer during service hours, every critical display path has a defined spare input or hot spare decoder, and remote monitoring has to report device state to the operations centre so a failing unit is swapped at 02:00 rather than discovered at 06:30. Enclosures and brightness are specified for platform realities - sun position, tunnel dust, wash-down cleaning - not for a catalogue photograph. Amtune manufactures the matrix, extender, decoder and audio module layer for station and transit installations under an ISO 9001 quality system with CE, FCC and RoHS compliance.
