The September sell-through figures that PMA Research published in the last week of October describe a channel growing in units faster than in revenue, and that distinction matters more than the headline. Among North American pro AV dealers, unit sales of flat panels 32 inches and larger rose 16 per cent from August, following a pronounced dip in that month, and were up 35 per cent year on year. Year to date, dealer volumes are 11 per cent ahead. Revenue did not keep pace with units, because prices fell. In the distribution channel, large-format panel units and revenues both grew by single digits on August, all-in-one dvLED displays rose 45 per cent year on year, and desktop monitors of 32 inches and above regained ground at 12 per cent both month on month and year on year.
Two details say more than the totals. The best-selling model in the pro AV dealer channel in September was a 50-inch consumer television, which the research firm reads as dealers pushing into light commercial and residential work to support their business. In distribution, 65 inches has become the most popular consumer size, helped by lower average prices. Read together, these point to a resimercial market where the boundary between a commercial installation and a well-specified home has largely dissolved, and where the buyer is often comparing a commercial panel against a consumer one at half the price.
That has direct consequences for signal design. When panel prices fall, projects buy more screens, and the cost of connecting each one becomes the visible line item: a matrix port, an extender, a decoder, a power outlet and a licensed control point. It also means more consumer-grade panels arrive on commercial networks without the features integrators rely on, such as IP or RS-232 control, portrait support, continuous-duty ratings, daisy-chain outputs and predictable EDID behaviour when a display sleeps. A consumer panel that drops its EDID on standby will blank a chain that was commissioned correctly, and no amount of matrix configuration fixes a sink that stops answering. The growth in all-in-one dvLED tells a parallel story: an easier sale, but a service question about module spares, front or rear access, and who climbs the ladder in year three.
Amtune's product line is built around exactly this arithmetic: keeping the per-output cost of a reliable signal path low enough that a room can afford every screen it needs. Seamless hybrid matrices handle source routing with per-output scaling, HDBaseT extenders cover the long runs that appear whenever a display is not near a rack, AV over IP decoders add endpoints without adding matrix ports, and converters reconcile the consumer sources and legacy formats that resimercial projects inevitably contain. All are manufactured under ISO 9001 with CE, FCC and RoHS compliance. Distribution and project enquiries at sales@amtune.com.
