dvLED Walls Arrive With Native ST 2110 and 240 Hz

Norxe, a Norwegian manufacturer known for high-brightness projectors in simulation and visitor attractions, used the run-up to IAAPA Expo 2026 to preview its first dvLED display series - and the specification reads like a network device rather than a screen. Pixel pitches of 0.7, 0.9, 1.2 and 1.5mm, frame rates up to 240Hz with low latency, native ST 2110 IP video input, and redundancy for both power and video. The platform is built on the company's Unify electronics and API, shares that foundation with its projectors, and ships with Unify Display Manager, a pre-installation tool for designing the wall and planning controllers, cabling and associated components. Simulation features include dedicated infrared diodes for night vision goggle training and precise dimming for continuous time-of-day simulation. The Florida demonstration is deliberately an early preview; vice-president of global sales Espen Olsen describes it as a way to bring partner feedback directly into the engineering process.

The significance is not that another projector company added LED. It is that the LED wall has stopped being a sink hanging off a video-wall processor. In the architecture most integrators still build, sources reach a processor, the processor emits HDMI or DisplayPort, a sending card converts that to the panel's internal serial format, and three vendors own a piece of the latency and a piece of the blame when a frame tears. A wall that accepts ST 2110 directly removes one conversion and one box, and it moves the interface contract from EDID to session description, stream addressing and canvas geometry. The 240Hz and low-latency emphasis also tells you the demand is coming from simulation, training and XR rather than from signage, where 60Hz remains sufficient.

Engineering consequences follow quickly. A 4K canvas at 240Hz does not fit in a gigabit; uncompressed it needs 10 or 25GbE, or a lightly compressed essence such as JPEG XS, and the budget has to be computed per wall rather than per source. The panel becomes another PTP participant, so the timing domain has to be designed rather than inherited. Redundancy needs a definition: hitless ST 2022-7 on two disjoint paths is a different promise from controller failover with a black frame in between, and tenders should say which one is being bought. And commissioning shifts to software - canvas layout, receiver addressing and per-cabinet calibration now matter more than the datasheet's brightness figure, because a mis-addressed receiver is a black rectangle with no EDID to blame.

Amtune sits upstream of that wall. Seamless hybrid matrices with multiview processing handle source selection and canvas composition where a processor is still the right answer, AV over IP decoders place sources and confidence feeds at the wall, and HDBaseT extenders remain the cheapest reliable route for fixed point-to-point runs.
