Dante AV Drives Venue-Scale AV Onto Standard Ethernet

The hardest test of networked AV is not a single room. It is a building that must rebuild itself every day. The Taichung International Convention and Exhibition Centre opened recently with a first floor of nine divisible conference rooms able to run independently or combine into one, plus a multipurpose hall, and the integrator built the venue-wide distribution on Dante AV rather than on fixed matrix hardware. More than 150 Dante AV-A transmitters and receivers were deployed to deliver visually lossless 4K with ultra-low latency across a standard 1 gigabit network, and rooms can be transformed from a single large space into separate breakout areas with one action while synchronisation is maintained across the whole ecosystem.

The architectural point is that video and audio are routed independently. High-resolution video travels to displays and projectors while audio is sent to DSPs, mixers, amplifiers and other networked audio devices, so a divisible room needs no separate AV matrix, no per-room switching frame and no duplicated cabling. Dante Domain Manager handles security, user authentication and routing across multiple subnets, and its managed API lets third-party control platforms pull network functions into one dashboard for monitoring device health and adjusting permissions. For a venue of this scale, administration is usually what decides whether a design survives contact with operations.

Endpoints are becoming invisible at the same time. One of the products recognised in this month’s industry award roundup is a Dante AV Ultra smart display module that integrates the receiver directly into compatible displays and projectors, removing external boxes and HDMI cabling from the wall. It carries 4K UHD 60p 4:4:4 video with ultra-low latency and uncompressed audio over 1GbE, and because it can be configured and bench-tested before delivery, commissioning time on site drops sharply. Another award winner is a standalone Dante control appliance with HDMI output and USB keyboard and mouse interfaces, so routing, monitoring and user management no longer depend on a dedicated control computer — which removes an operating system, a licence and a patch cycle from the rack.

None of this makes deterministic local switching obsolete. In a divisible room, a control room or a lobby wall, a purpose-built matrix still guarantees zero-gap switching and a fixed latency budget that a shared campus network cannot promise. The sensible pattern is hybrid: design the building on HD video seamless hybrid matrices where the signal path must be deterministic, feed the network through AV-over-IP codecs and decoders, place seamless hybrid matrix multiview processors where operators must watch many sources at once, and close the audio side with Dante and AES67 networked audio modules. Amtune manufactures that hardware under an ISO 9001 quality system, tested to CE, FCC and RoHS standards, and supports integrators at sales@amtune.com.
