NDI November 2026 Sharpens Focus On Networked Video

Networked video has spent several years arguing about protocols. November looks like the month the argument turns into curriculum. The AV over IP Summit runs across three sessions as part of NDI November 2026, and the agenda itself is the story: the first session covers NDI for network-based production alongside Dante audio, Dante AV and H.265/HEVC compression with the network design considerations that make them workable; the second moves to IPMX and SMPTE ST 2110, interoperability, timing, synchronisation and device discovery; the third is about choosing a workflow when moving from HDMI and SDI to IP. NDI, Dante AV, IPMX and ST 2110 are being presented as one landscape rather than four camps.

Education is where those standards are being bought at scale. At EDUCAUSE 2026 in Denver, which ran from 29 September to 2 October, AVer demonstrated a classroom line-up built almost entirely around networked endpoints and certified room systems. A compact network device combines NDI encoding and decoding in one unit to distribute video and extend access to room cameras, with 4K60, USB-C input and HDMI pass-through. A multi-camera tracking appliance outputs dual 4K and integrates NDI, Dante and Dante AV-H audio. A USB and network extender carries USB, HDMI, Ethernet and PoE++ up to 100 metres over a single CAT6 cable at 5 gigabits, and the room endpoints themselves are certified for the two dominant meeting platforms. Campuses are specifying networked AV the way they once specified projectors.

What changes for the buyer is the evaluation sheet. Port count matters far less than which codecs an endpoint speaks and how much bandwidth it needs, because a university with two hundred teaching spaces cannot run uncompressed 4K everywhere. Full NDI, NDI|HX, Dante AV and ST 2110 differ in bandwidth, latency and image quality, and most institutions end up with more than one of them in the same building. The practical questions become whether devices are discoverable and controllable from a central dashboard, whether a stream can be routed to an overflow room without additional hardware, and whether peripherals such as cameras and microphones travel with the video or need their own cables. Those answers decide the cost of the next hundred rooms.

The design discipline that keeps this manageable is to convert once, switch once and extend once. Standardise on the format the room needs, route it with equipment whose behaviour is predictable at the screen, and use the network only where reach or endpoint count demands it. Amtune supplies that layer as a matched family: HD video multi-viewers and seamless hybrid matrix multiview processors for monitoring, HD video seamless hybrid matrices for deterministic switching, AV extenders for long point-to-point runs and AV-over-IP codecs and decoders for the networked tier. Every product is manufactured under an ISO 9001 quality system and tested to CE, FCC and RoHS standards. Campus and integrator teams can reach the company at sales@amtune.com.
