Dante Certification Third Edition Raises the AV Skills Bar

Audinate has published an all-new 3rd Edition of its Dante Certification training for Levels 1, 2 and 3, replacing the previous curriculum across the network. The programme remains free at all three levels, is valid for three years, and now carries AVIXA renewal units — 5.5 for Level 1, 8 for Level 2 and 6.25 for Level 3, or up to 19.75 RUs in total, applicable to CTS, CTS-D, CTS-I and ANP holders. To deliver it at scale the company has also introduced a global Certified Training Partner programme with accredited instructors and training centres running the curriculum both online and in person. The change is more than a syllabus refresh: with several hundred thousand professionals trained on Dante to date, this is the single largest skills update the audio networking ecosystem has seen.

What has actually changed is the balance between product knowledge and network engineering. The new material goes deeper on foundational networking — IP addressing, VLANs, quality of service and multicast — precisely the areas where installers get into trouble, and layers on advanced Dante topics including system design, cloud-based production, AES67 and SMPTE ST 2110 integration through Dante Controller, enhancements to Dante AV, and expert-level troubleshooting. That reflects how the job has evolved. Audio and video now travel over the same Ethernet fabric as everything else, so a commissioning engineer needs to reason about multicast group management, switch configuration and clock synchronisation as fluently as about gain structure and speaker coverage.

The commercial argument for certification is straightforward. Most failures in networked audio systems are not hardware faults but design and configuration problems — an unmanaged switch flooded by multicast traffic, a VLAN boundary in the wrong place, a QoS setting that lets bulk file transfer starve a clock stream. Skills, not components, are the binding constraint on AV-over-IP adoption, and consultants and end users are increasingly writing credentials into specifications. Certified staff also compress commissioning time, which matters when a venue’s opening date is fixed. The wider lesson is that the audio specialist role has merged with the network specialist role, and vendor training has become a genuine differentiator for integrators bidding against generalists.

Amtune builds networked audio hardware to sit comfortably inside those certified systems. The Dante and AES67 audio module range is designed for networked audio distribution in installed and live applications, with dedicated Dante modular and AES67 modular lines for OEM integration into microphones, amplifiers, mixers and conferencing devices. Those modules pair naturally with the video layer — AV-over-IP codecs and decoders for distributed video, HDBaseT extenders where a point-to-point run is simpler than a network, and seamless hybrid matrix multiview processors for rooms where many signals meet. Each product is manufactured under an ISO 9001 quality system and tested to CE, FCC and RoHS standards, with full protocol documentation available for integrators.
