Matrix switchers are usually under-specified, and the mistake is almost always the same: sizing for today’s room rather than the room that exists three years from now. The first step in any Amtune matrix project is therefore an honest count of sources and destinations, including the ones already earmarked for a later phase. A typical huddle and meeting floor might need eight inputs against eight outputs; a boardroom and training complex will want 16 by 16; a control room, lecture theatre network or broadcast-adjacent facility usually lands on 32 by 32. Non-blocking switching matters throughout, because it allows any input to reach any combination of outputs simultaneously without contention — and 4K60 at 4:4:4 chroma with proper HDCP handling should be treated as the baseline, not an upgrade.
The second decision is the interface mix, and this is where a hybrid design earns its name. Source equipment does not arrive in a single format: HDMI laptops, DVI PCs in legacy racks, SDI in broadcast and medical environments, HDBaseT links from wall plates and displays, and fibre where a run crosses a building. A hybrid matrix accepts those inputs in their native form and routes them without external conversion boxes, removing a layer of failure points and power outlets from the rack. Distance and format then determine the output side. Local displays can be fed over HDMI, while remote displays are best served by HDBaseT over Cat cable for moderate runs or fibre for long hauls and campus links. Seamless switching deserves special attention in presentation environments, where a visible black gap during a source change is the difference between looking professional and looking broken.
Control is the third axis, and the one that most often gets decided too late. Amtune matrices are controllable over RS-232, TCP/IP, IR and a web interface, so they can be driven by a third-party control system, a touch panel, a scheduling platform or a simple browser preset. Presets recall a complete routing state — one button to move a room from presentation to video conference to all-hands — and stored EDID profiles prevent the classic support ticket where a source refuses the intended resolution after a display is swapped. Audio handling rounds out the specification: de-embedded analogue or digital audio feeds an outboard DSP or amplifier without a separate splitter, and dual power supplies are worth considering wherever the matrix sits on a critical path.
Specified this way, the matrix becomes the fixed point of an installation rather than a component that has to be replaced when the room grows. Amtune’s HD video seamless hybrid matrix family spans 8x8, 16x16 and 32x32 configurations with HDMI, DVI, SDI, HDBaseT and fibre connectivity, and is complemented by the HD video multi-viewer for confidence monitoring, the seamless hybrid matrix multiview processor where switching and multi-window processing must coexist, and AV extenders and converters to reach displays and normalise formats. Every product is manufactured under an ISO 9001 quality system and tested to CE, FCC and RoHS standards, and OEM and ODM configurations are available.
