Panasonic used the second week of October to announce a four-model PTZ family that replaces its AW-UE160 as the top of the line, and the headline is the sensor. The AW-UE200, AW-UE210, AW-UER200 and AW-UER210 share a 1.2-inch 5K MOS imager that oversamples to 4K output, a 22x zoom and, in this class for the first time, a global shutter. The two UER variants add a third roll axis with plus or minus 200 degrees of rotation, so the camera can switch between landscape and portrait framing without being re-rigged. Pan and tilt top out at 400 degrees per second, and the family ships in 2027.
Global shutter is usually explained in terms of fast motion, and that is fair: at 400 degrees per second, a rolling-shutter sensor reads the frame line by line while the lens is still moving, so vertical edges lean and truss, goalposts and LED tile borders bend. A global shutter exposes every pixel at the same instant, which takes that distortion out of the picture entirely. But the more interesting benefit in 2026 is photometric. Rolling-shutter cameras beat against LED wall refresh rates and pulsed stage lighting producing horizontal bands that no grade removes. A venue that has replaced backdrops with LED volume gains as much from a global shutter as a sports broadcaster does.
The second half of the story is the interface mix. The base UE200 and UER200 offer 12G-SDI, HDMI and IP. The UE210 and UER210 add SMPTE ST 2110 uncompressed IP, Dante network audio and dual SFP fibre cages. That is a deliberate split: buy the SDI version into a conventional truck or a house router, or buy the IP version into a facility that has already moved to a COTS switch fabric and PTP timing. Either way the camera is no longer a source that ends at a BNC connector; it is an addressable endpoint with an audio stream attached, which changes how a system is drawn. Audio no longer needs a separate analogue run to the mixer, and video can be routed independently of the audio path.
For integrators, the practical consequences are predictable but easy to underestimate. ST 2110 means PTP grandmaster design, because a camera that is not locked will not interwork with the rest of the fabric. Dual SFP cages mean real fibre budget for redundancy, not a single strand with a passive splitter. 12G-SDI at 4K60 leaves little headroom for long copper runs, so the camera position and the rack position have to be decided together. And once a facility owns several of these cameras, tally, PTZ control and camera matching become network services. Amtune builds the deterministic video and audio transport underneath: AV converters and signal processors for SDI and HDMI interfacing, HD video multi-viewers for camera walls and confidence monitoring, Dante and AES67 audio interfaces for the audio side, and AV-over-IP codecs where the venue prefers compressed IP to uncompressed. Units ship under an ISO 9001 quality system with CE, FCC and RoHS testing; drawings on request at sales@amtune.com.
