Amtune Pairs Wireless Presentation With A Wired Backbone

Wireless presentation is now a standard line in a meeting room brief, and the line usually arrives without the detail that decides whether the room works. Amtune's guidance for integrators is to treat the wireless receiver as one more HDMI source with unusual habits: a 4K30 input ceiling on many units, latency measured in the low hundreds of milliseconds, a radio link shared with every phone in the room, and a network that IT wants kept away from everything else.

The first decision is where the boundary sits. The receiver's HDMI output should land on an input of the room's seamless hybrid matrix, not directly on the display. That single choice gives the room one switching surface, lets the wireless source be scaled at the output rather than at the receiver, and keeps the presentation path identical to the wired one from the user's point of view. Where the display is remote, an HDBaseT extender carries the matrix output over cable that is already in the wall, and a signal converter handles any legacy display that never learned to accept 1080p60.

The second decision is the network. A guest-facing wireless system belongs on a guest VLAN, and the only connection between that VLAN and the AV system should be the HDMI cable. That is a deliberate air gap, and it is worth defending in a design review: it removes the wireless appliance as a route into the corporate network without asking its manufacturer to guarantee anything. On the AV side, AV switchers absorb the format differences between sources, and per-sink EDID management stops one 1080p projector from dragging every other display in the room down to its timing when a laptop is plugged in.

The third decision is the fallback. Wireless fails for reasons the room cannot control - channel congestion, a laptop that refuses to join, a corporate policy that blocks the client. Staff need a wired path at the table, USB-C or HDMI into a wall plate feeding the same matrix input, labelled so that nobody has to call for help. Audio deserves the same treatment: Dante and AES67 interfaces keep room audio on its own clock domain, while Dante audio modules let an OEM put that capability inside a wireless hub or a soundbar. In a BYOM room the camera and microphone also need a USB path back to the laptop, which is a different problem from the video path and belongs on the same drawing. Enquiries at sales@amtune.com.
