European buyers started asking a new question this year, and it is not about resolution. Under Regulation (EU) 2023/826, networked AV equipment has to meet limits on off-mode, standby and networked-standby consumption, and the off-mode ceiling tightens from 0.50W to 0.30W on 9 May 2027. That date is close enough to sit inside the design cycle of anything being specified now, so Amtune has been treating it as a hardware requirement rather than a paperwork exercise.
Three architectural choices carry most of the result. The first is the power supply. A converter or decoder that keeps a flyback running to hold a microcontroller alive will not reach 0.30W off-mode no matter how good the firmware is, so the platform uses a low-leakage standby rail with a mains-side relay, and the wake path is designed to draw microamps rather than milliamps. The second is the wake strategy. A device that can only be woken by a physical button is compliant and useless, so the platforms support front-panel wake, signal-detect wake on the HDMI input, RS-232 and, on networked models, wake-on-LAN handled below the application processor. The third is the transition logic: front panels and status LEDs dim or extinguish on a timer, and the auto power-down interval is documented rather than buried in firmware.
Networking is where the numbers get awkward, because networked standby is a 2.00W ceiling and an AV-over-IP decoder that is subscribed to a multicast group is not really idle. Amtune's approach is to separate the two states explicitly. When no stream is bound, the endpoint drops the video pipeline, parks the decoder and keeps only the management interface and the wake path, and that figure is measured and published. When a stream is bound but the display is off, the unit keeps the stream alive only if the installation's control system asks it to, because some venues accept a watt of standby to avoid a five-second black screen on wake, and that is a design decision the integrator should make with data rather than by accident. The same logic runs through the hybrid matrix switchers and AV extenders, where PoE and power-over-cable budgets are documented alongside the mains figures.
Documentation matters as much as the design, since a distributor cannot place a product in Europe without a technical file. Amtune supplies, for each model, a table of measured consumption in off, standby, display standby and networked standby with the test method cited, the auto power-down behaviour and its timing, the external power supply specification where one is used, and the statements needed for a declaration of conformity. The same data is available to OEM and ODM customers who need to build their own file around a module or a board. It is not the most exciting part of the catalogue, but it is increasingly the part that decides whether a project ships. Details and per-model figures at sales@amtune.com.
