Amtune Signal Chains For Worship And Auditoriums

Houses of worship and community auditoriums sit in an unusual corner of the AV market. The programme is multi-source and repetitive: cameras, presentation computers, playback and stage inputs feeding a main screen, an overflow room, a lobby display, a cry room and a streaming path, several times a week. The people running it are frequently volunteers rather than technicians, and the equipment has to survive years of use with limited maintenance. That combination rewards a very specific kind of design, one built around fixed presets and predictable latency rather than around a long list of features nobody has time to configure on a Sunday morning.

The pattern that works starts at the head end. A matrix switches all sources to all destinations and stores named presets, so a single button press can put the camera feed and the lyrics feed on the correct screens for the main service and send a different combination to the overflow room. Long runs to the lobby, the balcony and the secondary room are best carried over HDBaseT on dedicated category cable, which keeps video, audio, control and power on one link with a fixed low latency and removes any dependence on the building data network. A multi-viewer in the technical position lets one operator see the programme feed, the camera feeds, the lyrics output and the stream simultaneously, which is far cheaper than a second operator and a second set of monitors. Where audio distribution outgrows an analogue run, networked audio moves it onto the same infrastructure as the rest of the building systems.

Two engineering details matter more in this sector than anywhere else. The first is zero-gap switching. Cutting from a camera to a presentation source or to playback should not flash a black frame on a large screen in front of a congregation, so switching behaviour belongs in the specification, not in the sales brochure. The second is recovery. If a cable is disturbed or a display is replaced, the system should return to a working state without a technician on site, which means sensible EDID handling, power delivered over the extension link so no local supply is needed behind a screen, and firmware that is supported for the life of the installation. Converters that accept legacy composite, VGA and analogue audio sources also keep existing equipment earning its place instead of forcing an all-at-once replacement.

Amtune builds that entire chain as one family. The HD video seamless hybrid matrix range provides the head end and presets, AV switchers cover smaller rooms and side chapels, AV extenders carry signals to distant screens, HD video multi-viewers give the technical booth one place to watch everything, the seamless hybrid matrix multiview processor handles combined layouts, AV converters integrate legacy sources, and Dante and AES67 networked audio modules deliver audio where a distributed system is required. All products are manufactured under an ISO 9001 quality system and tested to CE, FCC and RoHS standards. Integrators can request application notes and sample units at sales@amtune.com.
